Jean M Aldridge, died on Mon, Aug 6, 2018 from complications of a hemorrhagic stroke that she suffered on Mar 11th. She was 79 years old.
Born and raised in Detroit, MI she was the daughter of Jean Barton Reid and Robert Reid. She graduated from Mercy High School in 1957 and married Thomas F Aldridge, the love of her life, in 1959.
She is survived by their three children, Jean Aldridge Jones, Thomas F Aldridge (Kathy), and Robert H Aldridge (Sherrie) as well as her seven grandchildren, whom she called “The Magnificent Seven”: Jean Marie (Alphonso) Holmes, Reid Jones, Victoria (Zachary) White, Tina (Corey) Bowling, Tori Aldridge, Rachel Aldridge, and Will Aldridge as well as two great grandchildren whose name for her was “Great”: Marie Homes and Donovan Holmes. Her sister, Doreen Reid Hakuole, her brother in law, Hamilton Aldridge, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
Jean earned a BS in History from The University of South Carolina, Upstate in 1982 and went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Applied History from the University of South Carolina, Columbia in 1990.
Jean traveled the world with her husband, Tom and after his death with her daughter, Jeanie. She visited every continent except Antarctica and had plans to travel to Japan in 2019 after her 80th birthday.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and a great friend. Her enthusiasm was contagious and her energy was boundless. She channeled both of these traits as a member of Greenville Civitan Club and was a proud supporter of the Peace Center.
A visitation will be held Tue, Aug 14, 2018 from 3 pm until 4:15pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, 639 N. Main St, Greenville with a memorial service following in the chapel at 4:30 pm. A reception will follow at Jean’s home.
