James "Dallas" Sutherby, 91, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly of Kalkaska, passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 6, 2003.
He was born Nov. 2, 1911, in Seaforth, Ontario, Canada, the son of Nelson and Wilhemina (Chesney) Sutherby.
Dallas married Lois Sachs on Jan. 9. 1934, in Wayne County. They were married 60 years before Lois passed away on Dec. 7. 1994. Dallas worked as manager of an A & P Store in the Detroit area until he retired in 1973. In 1975. Dallas and Lois moved to Kalkaska to enjoy retirement. In October 2001. he moved to Sarasota, Fla., to be near his son.
Dallas is survived by his son, James N. (Judith) Sutherby of Sarasota; son-in-law, William Ponder of Kalkaska: seven grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Chesney Sutherby.
Dallas was preceded in death by his wife Lois, daughter Sharon M. Newell Ponder on Aug. 29. 2001. and sis- ter Jean Henderson.
A graveside service was held on Oct. 10 at the Evergreen Cemetery for family and friends.
