Jack M. Baird, 71, died Mon, Mar 24, 1997, in Battle Creek. 

Mr. Baird was born Nov 30, 1925, in South Boardman to Clarence and Evabelle (Colborn) Baird. He married M. Wanda Lugar Apr 12, 1947, in Battle Creek. 

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Machinist's Mate Third Class, receiving an Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He was employed by Kellogg Co for almost 40 years retiring in 1985 from the Milling Division. he had also been a school bus driver for Lakeview School District for 10 years. 

He had been a member of the Kellogg 25 year club, Sportsmans Club, B.C. Lodge #12, F& AM, American Legion Post #53 at South Boardman and National Rifle Association member. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church and former member of First Church of the Nazarene where he served on the church board. He was also a volunteer at the soup kitchen and at the zoo. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

Surviving are his wife; daughters Peggy I Mingus of Minneapolis, MN, and Robin R. Arnold of Marshall; son Jack M Baird II of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren; stepmother Marie Baird of Battle Creek; brother James Tuffts of Kalkaska; sisters Dorothy Elliott of Detroit, Mildred Thebadeau of Port Huron, and Margaret Watkins and June Lavallee, both of Battle Creek; stepbrothers Gordon and Michael Turner of Battle Creek; stepsisters Mary Burd and Mable Campbell of Battle Creek, and Sheila Kaliman of Jackson. 

Services were held Mar 27 at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home, Battle Creek. Rev. Nicholson and Rev. Robert L Zuhl officiated. Entombment was at Memorial Park Mausoleum. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association of First Wesleyan Church.
