Hugh D. McMorran, 61, of Ruby, died Sat, Feb 24, 2007 at Hospice House of Mid Michigan in Lansing after a long illness.

He was born to Henry Gordon McMorran and Jean Stewart Weston McMorran on Aug 7, 1945 in Port Huron.

Hugh married on Mar 16, 1973 to Diane King-McMorran. They have two sons, Ian Stewart McMorran of Seattle, WA and Kirk Patrick McMorran of Lansing. He also is survived by two brothers, David Steward (Therese) McMorran and Henry “Jock” Gordon (Robin) McMorran, both of Hot Springs, AR; and one sister, Pamela Todd (John) Fox of Meadville, PA.

Hugh was a graduate of Albion College. He was a US Army Veteran serving in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked as an internal auditor with Whirlpool Corp, and later as accounting manager with Diamond Crystal Salt Co in St Clair. He more recently worked as the business/finance manager with the DSLT Development Company in St. Clair.

Hugh was a board member and past president of Goodwill Industries St Clair County. He was former member of the Blue Water YMCA and the Blue Water Council Boy Scouts. He was a former member of the finance committee of the Girl Scouts Waterways Council and was involved with MainStreet Port Huron and the SC4 Foundation.

Hugh was active member of Port Huron Golf Club and was past president of both Wed Night Dance Club and Formal Dance Club.

Hugh was a great grandson of Henry McMorran, a former US Representative as well as a successful businessman and philanthropist. The McMorran Complex in downtown Port Huron reflected the family’s heritage in the area.

The funeral service will be at 11 am Fri, Mar 2, 2007 in Grace Episcopal Church. Pastor Robert Trask will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery under the direction of the St Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Visitation will be in Smith Family Funeral Home North, 1525 Hancock St on Thur from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and on Fri in the church parlor one hour prior to the service.

Hugh’s nephews will be his pallbearers.

Contributions may be made in memory to Goodwill Industries, YMCA, or Community Foundation of St Clair County.
