Harold Edward Schermerhorn, 99, of Kalkaska, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Munson Medical Center. 

Mr. Schermerhorn was born on June 1, 1913 in Marilla, Mich., the son of the late George and Cora (Randall) Schermerhorn. He attended school at Marilla and graduated in 1933 from Copemish High. He worked at Buick Motors Co. in Flint, and also worked for 14 years as a carpenter for the Flint Public Schools. Harold retired in 1975 to Kalkaska, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Marian on April 28, 1995; daughter Janet on June 8, 2000; sister Daisy and brothers Everett and Glen. He is survived by his daughter June Stene of Ada, Minn.; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Harold was a hardworking man who always put others needs before his own. He was a true friend to all that knew and loved him. Harold and Marian often took in children that were in need of a good home throughout their lives. Harold Schermerhorn was a good, honest man that will be truly missed. 

Visitation will be held from 10 – 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Kalkaska Funeral Home with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Kalkaska Funeral Home. A luncheon will follow the service at the C.E.T.A. Hall, 6615 County Rd. 612 NE, Kalkaska, Mich 49646. There will be a graveside service on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Cleon Township Cemetery in Copemish, Mich.
