Herbert L. "Peanut" Van, 75, a lifelong resident of Rapid City, died Friday, July 13, 1990, at Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital.
Mr. Van, a retired carpenter, was a member of the Rapid City Church of Christ, a member of the Traverse City Carpenter's Local Union 1461, and a former Kalkaska County Road Commissioner. He enjoyed fishing, his family and friends.
He was born August 28, 1914 to Henry and Dora (Mathauws) Van, and was married in Mancelona on November 11, 1937 to Agnes Henderson, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Richard of Elk Rapids, Herbert M. of Rapid City, Edward of Mancelona, and Gregg of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Sally Dunson of Central Lake, and Rhonda Vasher of Rapid City; one sister, Edna Kleis of Oceanside, Calif.; 16 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Van, and five sisters, Florence Van, Bessie Rice, Mary Elwell, Laura Lasko, and Alida Tyler.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 16, 1990, at the Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska, and interment was at Clearwater Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County. Jerry Leazenby officiated.
