Harry R. Smith, 75, of Fife Lake, died Fri, Sep 29, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
He was born Aug 29, 1925, in Lawrenceburg, TN, the son of William Houston and Myrtle Montana (Shaw) Smith. On Sep 17, 1952, in Lewisburg, he married the former Doris Hunter.
Mr. Smith served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He was employed by the Detroit Police Department for 25 years as a detective lieutenant in the robbery division, retiring in 1976. He was a former member of the Masonic Order and enjoyed his grandchildren, building, construction, carpentry, hunting, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife Doris; daughters Valli M (Gordon) Ashbay of Wacousta and Nancy C (Mark) Kujawski of Grosse Pointe Park; grandchildren Lisa, Michelle and Johnathan Ashbay, and Christine, Mark Jr and Steven Kujawski; and brothers Robert (Chris) Smith of Plymouth and Bernard (Tammy) Smith of Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother William Smith.
Private family services will be held. Interment will be at Garfield Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
