Gertrude Mellisa Peterson of San Angelo Texas, passed away Jul 30, 2011 in Meadowcreek Nursing Center.

Gertrude was born Oct 26, 1912 in Pickford, MI to George and Gladys (Lawson) Rickley. She was married to Ambert Peterson on Oct 19, 1933 in Birmingham, MI. He preceded her in death on Apr 15, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

She was a resident of San Angelo since 1999. She grew up in Birmingham, MI. During WWII, she worked for Bendix making electric components for airplanes. She was a remarkable seamstress and did impeccable alterations for years. Her life was dedicated to her daughter and family and she played a big part during the growing up of her grandson, Michael. During her time in San Angelo, she enjoyed the addition of Michael’s wife Brook and her two great-grandsons, Colby and Cooper, whom she dearly loved.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue Mitchell and husband Mike of San Angelo; grandson, Michael D. Mitchell, Jr. and wife Brooke and two great-grand sons, Colby and Cooper. She is also survived by her niece, Karen Peiser and husband Bobby, her nephew, Tom Davies and several great nephews and nieces.

Gertrude resided at Meadowcreek Nursing Home for six years. The family wishes to thank her wonder “earth Angel” Kathy Duarte and Dr. Viki Forlano, as well as the other caregivers and nurses at Meadowcreek who loved and cared for her. The family also wishes to thank Lighthouse Hospice of San Angelo for their care in her last days.

A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 3, at 2 pm. at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Taylor Sandlin officiating. Burial will follow later at White Chapel Memorial Park in Troy, Michigan.
Memorial may be made to Meals for the Elderly, Lighthouse Hospice, Southland Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
