George W. Underhill, 95, of Rapid City, a retired school teacher and farmer, died Friday night, Oct 12, 1990, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Mr. Underhill had lived in Rapid City since 1916. He attended Ferris State University, and formerly served as Clearwater Township Supervisor and Treasurer. He was a member of the Rapid City Church of Christ, and had been active with the Kalkaska County Commission on Aging and the Meals on Wheels Program. He formerly served on the board of Level Acres Non-Profit Housing Corp. in Kalkaska.
Mr. Underhill was born in Sparta on Nov. 17, 1894, to George D. and Eva Rose Underhill. He was married on July 4, 1915, in Rapid City, to Vere Rugg who died on Nov. 30, 1972. On July 24, 1973, in Rapid City, he was married to Hattie Champney who preceded him in death on April 20, 1978. On June 7, 1981, in Rapid City he was united in marriage with Frances Chaney who survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, George Underhill of Radcliff, KY, and William Underhill of Rapid City; three daughters, Vere K. Driggett and Ida Linderleaf both of Rapid City, and Jeanne Kerr of Lansing; one stepson, Albert McMullen of Mary Esther, Fla.; one stepdaughter Mrs. Myrtle Young of Lakeland, Fla.; one sister, Olive Hott of East Jordan; 27 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sons, Jack Underhill; one brother, William; one sister, Mary; and three grandsons.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct 15, 1990, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Jerry Leazenby, pastor of the Rapid City Church of Christ, officiated.
