Francis R. Shannon, 88, a resident of Kalkaska for the past 20 years died Wednesday, Jan 30, 1991, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Mr. Shannon was a retired locomotive engineer for the New York Central Railroad, and was a past Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus of St. Anthony de Padua Council No. 1949 in Elmwood Park, Ill.
He was born on Dec. 16, 1902 in Chicago, Ill, to Andrew and Mary (Hanlon) Shannon. On Aug. 22, 1931, in Elmwood Park, Ill., he married Florence Howard, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Francis H. Shannon of Wheaton, Ill. and James Shannon of Camas, Wash; four daughters, Kathleen Subaitis of North Riverside, Ill., Barbara O'Neill of Ferndale, Jean Cupp of Pendleton, Ore., and Margaret Shannon of Portland, Ore., 19 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Thomas, Andrew, Michael, Edward, and John.
A scripture service was held Friday, Feb 1, 1991 at the Wolfe Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, Feb 2, 1991 at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska. Father Patrick J. Barrett officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
