DEATH: 15 Aug 2022

Evelyn Marie Cameron (nee Nutter) passed away peacefully on August 15, 2022 at age 96. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Tracy and Goldie (nee Stuck) Nutter, brother, George Leo Nutter, former husbands, Walter Sauer and Harold Cameron, daughter Constance “Connie” Sauer Lawton Santarsiero, sister in law, Dorothy Nutter Wilbert and daughter in law, Robin Cameron. She is survived by her son Keith Cameron Capt. USCG (Ret) of Delta, PA and daughter Jill (James) Traver of Rochester. Her legacy continues with grandchildren Scott (Shelley), Brian (Linda), Craig (Antonnet) and Sean Lawton, Any (Leonard) Becker, Lisa (Jared) Schuster, Eileen, Brendan, and Katherine Traver; 12 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was born in Georgetown, DE. She lived in Bordentown and Brown Mills areas of New Jersey. Where she raised her daughter Connie. For 26 years, she was a secretary for Walson Army Hospital, Fort Dix, NJ and retired in 1992. While married to her second husband, Evelyn called Buffalo, NY home for 20 years where she raised her children Keith and Jill.

Evelyn was a sweet and loving mother, grandmother, and aunt. She always remembered birthdays and special occasions with cards and phone calls and took a great interest in her extended family members. She also loved to drive and traveled great distances to visit her loved ones and friends.

Evelyn enjoyed her retirement to the fullest. She was an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Her hobbies and favorite activities included going to the New Jersey Shore, ballroom dancing in Hightstown, metal detecting at beaches and playgrounds and participating in Volksmarch Walking Club in numerous destinations, both near and far. She shared these activities with Connie and many dear friends. Highlights of her many travels include Las Vegas, NV, Branson, MO, Hawaii, and Bermuda.

Florida was always a favorite destination and eventually she moved to Hudson and New Port Richey areas. She was very active in her Club Wildwood Community, walking, playing darts, and bowling. Birthday lunches and having friends over to dinner were also part of her social activities.

No matter where Evelyn lived, she always became an active member of the Episcopal Church. At. St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in New Port Richey, FL, she was an enthusiastic volunteer at the church’s Thrift Store until she moved to Rochester, NY to be closer to her daughter Jill. She moved into the Episcopal Senior Life River Edge Manor and enjoyed her beautiful apartment and new friends. She always received very kind care at River Edge Manor and at the Episcopal Church Home, where she passed away in Hospice.

Evelyn’s memorial service will be celebrated Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown, NJ 08505. A private Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the Episcopal Senior Life Communities, 505 Mt. Hope Ave., Rochester, NY 14620 in her memory.
