Ernest J. Neubecker, 79, of Kalkaska, died Thu, Aug 28, 1997, at his residence. 

Mr. Neubecker retired from Detroit Edison Company in 1983, following 35 years of service, and moved to Kalkaska County in 1986. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, and later served in the Army. He was a former member of Christ United Methodist Church in Inkster, and was a current member of the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, a life member of Pietrowski VFW Post 9973, adn the Kalkaska Community Choir. He had served as Scout Master of Post 1137, and enjoyed woodworking and rug hooking. 

Born in Grand Rapids on Jul 14, 1918, he was the son of Conrad and Mary Curren Neubecker. On Jun 13, 1947, in Inkster, he married Hazel (Burch) Sabin who survives. 

Also surviving are sons, Ernest (Debbie) Neubecker, Jr of Inkster, Michael (Cecelia) Neubecker of Kalkaska, Alton Sabin of Traverse City, Gerald (Donna) Sabin of Dearborn Heights, and Jack (Arlene) Sabin of Grayling; sisters, Norene Fleszer of Trenton and Mary Ellen Malvitz of Carleton; 19 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. 

A daughter Shirley and brother Raymond, preceded him in death. 

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the John N Santein & Son Funeral Home in Garden City, Rev. William Sanders officiated. Burial was in Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock.
