Elwin P. "Al" Kleyn, 64, of Fife Lake, died Sun, Jul 7, 1996, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. 

Mr. Kleyn moved to Kalkaska County in 1972 from Sparta. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and had worked as a semi-truck driver. He was a member of the New Life Assembly, the Goldwing Riders Association Chapter 02, and the Christian Motorcycle Association. In addition to motorcycling, he enjoyed boating and stonework. Mr. Kleyn was born in Newaygo County on Mar 17, 1932, to Thomas and Clara Eckle Kleyn. On Feb 25, 1972, in Kalkaska, he was united in marriage with Shirley Schmidt who survives. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Debbie Rhoades of Kalkaska; one brother, John Kleyn of Coopersville; three sisters, Lucy Folkema of Allendale, Frances Coonrod of Clayton, SC, and Judy Tipton of TX; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; step father Ernest Taylor of Newaygo and several nieces and nephews. 

One brother, Anthony Kleyn, preceded him in death. 

Funeral services were held Thu, Jul 11, 1996, at the New Life Assembly. Rev. Scott Rhoades and Rev. Art Rhoades officiated. Military rites were under the auspices of Land O'Lakes VFW Post 8684. Burial was in Ingersoll Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
