Mrs. Elsa Tarnovsky, 75, of Kalkaska, died Monday afternoon, February 5, 1990, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Mrs. Tamovsky immigrated from Germany to Warren, Mich. on Oct. 4, 1949, and resided in the Detroit area until moving to Kalkaska County in 1966. As a young lady, she was detained by the German Nazis in 1942 and was held in several concentration camps until the end of WW II. She worked for man years as a cleaning lady in the Detroit and Kalkaska County areas, and was then employed in the Housekeeping Department of the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center until her retirement. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Tarnovsky was born in Poland on Sept 8, 1914, to John and Pauline Barr Schultz. She was married to Timothy Bykow on May 4, 1949, in Germany. He died on Feb. 1, 1964. On May 7, 1966, in Detroit, she was united in marriage with Fred Tarnovsky, who preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1982.
There is no family surviving, but she had many dear friends and her church family to support her.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 10, 1990, at the Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Dan Davis officiated. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
