Elmer L. Minthorn, 89, passed away on April 15, 2020. He peacefully passed at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on an Easter Sunday in Lake City to Elmer and Dorothea (Peterson) Minthorn.
Elmer was a U.S. Army veteran during the Occupation of Germany and the Korean War. He worked for Western Electric/AT&T before retiring at 58 years of age. While working in Petoskey, installing telephone equipment, he met Marjorie Allen, and they married on Oct 17, 1953.
He raised three children who were blessed to have him as their father.
Elmer was a quiet and caring man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was very talented and had many creative past-times including leather crafting, needle point, sketching, wood carving and playing a good dulcimer tune. He loved westerns, both movies and books. There wasn’t a Louis L’Amour book that he had not read! He was an excellent problem-solver and many times we heard “well a guy could…”.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie (Allen) Minthorn. He was the loving father of Brenda (Tom) Snyder, Don Minthorn, Cheryl Minthorn; he was blessed with five grandchildren, Jesse (Trish) Snyder, Ben (Jill) Snyder, Katie (Scott) Firman, Nathan Snyder, and Carl Snyder; and blessed again with five great-grandchildren, Cavin, Keenan, Riley, Lillian, and Roan. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (John) Duvall; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time. If so inclined, memorial contributions may be made out of the Muscular Dystrophy Association for Myotonic Dystrophy Research
The family is being served by Wolfe-O’Neill Funeral Home.
