Elaine E. Barnes, 92, of Kalkaska, died Tue, Jun 6, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Mrs. Barnes resided in Kalkaska most of her life, and prior to her retirement in 1960 was a secretary at Kalkaska High School.
She was a member of the Kalkaska Church of Christ, Rebekah Lodge and the Eve Club. She enjoyed bowling.
She was born in Kalkaska on Feb 17, 1908, the daughter of Darwin and Matilda Hagni Lewis. She married Bennie Barnes in 1929, and he preceded her in death on Mar 24, 1941.
Surviving are sons Richard (Marie) Barnes of Westminster, CA, and Harold (Mabel) Barnes; also of Westminster; brother Melburn Lewis of Kalkaska; sister Esther Beebe of Ann Arbor; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Sisters Bertine Brown and Zelma Thornburg preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Jun 12 at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska; E. Dan Johnson, pastor of the Kalkaska Church of Christ, officiated.
Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City.
