Doyle E. Huff, 85, of Traverse City and Fife Lake died unexpectedly Aug 13, 2011 at his home in Traverse City. Doyle was born Jul 14, 1926 in South Boardman to the late Elmer and Althea (Miller) Huff.
He enlisted in the US Navy Aug 3, 1943 and served his country as a Torpedo Man 1st Class. His submarine service in WWII was on Sub #199, the Tautaug, which holds the record for sinking the most enemy ships.
Doyle also worked for the Merchant Marines and the Ann Arbor Car Ferry in Frankfort.
Doyle is survived by his daughters Linda (Keith) Bridson of Fife Lake, Carol (David) Sciortino of St. Joseph, MI, Barbara Darrington of Independence, MO, and a brother, Roger Huff of Fife Lake; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and his special friend Ann McClellan and her family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Olive, his parents, a brother Wayne, grandson Chris, and an infant granddaughter. Doyle touched many lives as a Senior Companion. He leaves behind a legacy of great stories, compassion and a willingness to serve wherever he could.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Fri, Aug 19 at 2pm at the South Boardman Cemetery.
