Doris Prewitt, 74, died Sept. 11, 2002, at her home, in Tucson, Ariz., after an extended illness.
She was born in South Boardman on March 3, 1928, and grew up on the Etzcorn family farm before attending nursing school. Doris moved to Tucson from Michigan in 1959. She worked as a nurse at Pima County Hospital and continued at Kino Hospital. After her retirement, she traveled and enjoyed doing needlework and being with her family and friends.
Doris is survived by a family who will miss her loving guidance, kindness and generosity. She was a wonderful mom, grandmother and friend to those fortunate enough to have her in their lives. She is survived by Deborah, Joe and Rachael Smolen of California; Don, Betty, Sarah and Brian Prewitt; Dave, Susan and Jeremy Prewitt all of Tucson; Gordon Johnson of Sierra Vista; Kenneth, Martha, Michael and David Etzcorn and their families of Indiana and Ohio; and Ruth Etzcorn and Marilyn Etzcorn-Zirkle and their families of Michigan. She leaves behind many friends and a legacy of love that will keep her memory alive.
A memorial service was held Sept. 17. at the chapel at South Lawn in Tucson, Ariz. The family wishes to thank Carondelet Hospice Services, and especially her medical team, for allowing her to remain at home and manage her illness with the dignity she desired and the wonderful care she deserved In lieu of flowers, we know she would appreciate a donation in her memory to Carondelet Hospice Services, 1802 St. Mary's Road, Tucson AZ 85745. A scholarship fund will be established in her name to help deserving nursing students and give the world other nurses to replace the great one we have lost.
