Derwood P. Birgy, 96, a life-long resident of Kalkaska County, passed away on Sat, Sep 15, 2012 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center - LTC. He was born on Apr 26, 1916, to the late Joseph and Katherine (Wagner) Birgy.
Derwood married the former Ethel Mae Brewer on Jan. 9, 1937. They were married for 50 years, when she passed away in 1987. Together they raised seven wonderful children.
Derwood loved working his farm in Fife Lake and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the St Aloysius Catholic Church.
Derwood is survived by his loving children Harold V. (Marlene) Birgy of Fife Lake, Marilyn E. (Richard) Beaver of Fife Lake, Janet K (Douglas) Stephens of Kalkaska, Larry D. Birgy of Fife Lake, Terry J (Judy) Birgy of Fife Lake, Tim L (Debbie) Birgy of Fife Lake, and Tammy (Andrew) Runkel of Fife Lake; 22 cherished grandchildren; and 34 precious great grandchildren.
Visitation for Derwood will be held on Tue, Sep 18, 2012 from 5-9 pm at the Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wed, Sep 19 at 11 am at St Aloysious Catholic Church with the Rev. Norman Dickson officiating.
Burial will follow in St Aloysius Catholic Church Cemetery.
Derwood was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his daughter in law, Sharron Birgy.
