Derl W. Beals, 78, of Fife Lake, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. He was born on September 19, 1930 to the late Clell M. and Trucie (Priest) Beals in Muskegon Township. 

Derl married Marilyn L. Cady on February 3, 1951 in Muskegon. On his wedding day he and his twin brother, Earl, received their draft notices from the US Army. Derl reported for duty just 10 days after he was married. He and Marilyn moved to Kalkaska County in 1961 and together raised 4 wonderful children. Derl loved the outdoors, gardening, and animals. He especially loved watching and feeding the deer. Derl was a member of the American Legion Post #300 in Lake City. 

Surviving Derl is his devoted wife of 58 years, Marilyn; his loving children, John (Donna) Beals of Lake City, Carol (Ted) Tyler of Muskegon, Dianne (Richard) Jones of Los Angeles, and Tom Beals of Traverse City; his dear siblings, Bernice DeBoef of Muskegon and Merrill Beals of North Highlands, CA; 12 cherished grandchildren; and 15 precious great-grandchildren. 

Derl was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gayl Beals, and his twin brother Earl Beals. 

The funeral service for Derl will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home with Pastor Kim Hough of Garfield Country Church officiating. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Garfield Township Cemetery in the spring. 

Memorial may be given to American Legion Post #300, Lake City, Michigan 49651. Arrangements were made by Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home, our family serving yours.
