Delphin S. Kirkby, 82, of Alanson, died Jan, 28, 1991.
He was born Dec. 27, 1908 at Hardgrove Lake to Allison and Jessie Kirkby. They moved to Sigma where he graduated valedictorian of his senior class from Oliver High School (Kalkaska County) in 1926. He attended General Motors Tech and the Detroit School of Law.
Mr. Kirkby began working summers in the auto industry in 1922, retiring from Oldsmobile when he retired in June 1966 after 37 years. He was a charter member of several United Auto Worker locals, being a life member of Local 652. He also did free-lance photo-journalism until 1942. He is a former member of the Oldsmobile Sportsmen's Club, the Quarter Century Club, and the Lansing Camera Club.
He married Susan Dougherty in Lansing, Jan 17, 1936, who survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Sara Kirkby of British Columbia, Canada; three sons, Edward of Marion, David (DDS) of Dowling, and George of Alanson; sisters, Irma (Clarence) Hudson of Dade City, Fla, and Leenabelle (Robert) Lucas of Midland, and a brother, Rev. Kearney Kirkby of Livonia, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Amanda Kirkby and a brother Donald.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb 1, 1991 at the Estes Leadley Funeral Home in Lansing with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
