David Richard Shafer, 72, was born in Des Moines on Dec 23, 1942 and passed away on Jul 19, 2015.
On Jun 9, 1962, David married Jacqueline Neal. David was the successful owner and operator of Dave's Marine and Sports. David loved drag racing and animals, especially his dog, Peanut. His greatest passion was his family and spending time with them.
David is survived by his wife, Jackie; children, Troy (Karen) Shafer and Kimberly (Drew) Waddell; 8 grandchildren, Chelsea (Brent) Schuele, Allison (Adam) White, Skyler Waddell, Bree Waddell, Demique Waddell, Zacorey Shafer, Austin Shafer, Michael Shafer; great grandson, Benjamin Schuele and another great grandson on the way; Paul Jr and Ruth (Robert) Bartlet. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Joy Hollingsworth.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm, Thu, Jul 23, 2015, at Highland Park Christian Church, 4260 NW 6th Dr, Des Moines, with services to be held at 10 am, on Friday, Jul 24, also at the church. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
