David C. Zemke, 68, of Kalkaska, died Friday, Dec. 1, 1989, at his residence.
Mr. Zemke moved to Kalkaska 16 years ago from Traverse City. He was a longtime employee of Sears, Roebuck & Co., and later owned and operated Zemke's Department Store in Kalkaska. He retired from Craft House Corporation. Mr. Zemke was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City, and a member and past president of the Rotary Club in Kalkaska. He enjoyed woodworking and crafts, and was a veteran of WW II.
He was born in Antigo, WI on July 1, 1921, to Herman and Clara Buerger Zemke. On June 18, 1949, in Antigo, he was united in marriage with Lyrl Parsons who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jim Zemke of Traverse City and Gregg Zemke of Fife Lake; one brother, Herman of Chicago; and four grandchildren.
Four brothers and one granddaughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 4, 1989, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City. Pastors Raymond Pollatz and Charles Gieschen officiated. Cremation followed funeral services.
