C. Edward Kanney, 92, of Van Wert, died at 11:20am Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at Convoy Care Center.

He was born Dec 18, 1915, in Hicksville, the son of the late Lurty E. and Ethel (Wunder) Kanney. He married Edna (Bebout) Kanney, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Kanney was a salesman for many years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, and was a veteran of the US Navy who served during WWII. He was a life member of Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert, a member of American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert, a former member of Moose Lodge 1320 in Van Wert, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Van Wert, and Mizpah Shriners in Fort Wayne, IN. He was an avid golfer and loved to vacation.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three children, Rose Ann (Lou) Dickinson of Van Wert, Chuck (Diane) Kanney of Naperville, IL, and Pam (Howard) Ekey of Perry, GZ; 10 grandchildren, Trevlyn Dickinson, Jennifer Balliet, Katie Dickinson, Alyssa Head, Weston Ekey, Chad Ekey, Steve Kanney, Mike Kanney, Laura Jones, and Beth Corso; and 12 great grandchildren.

Two sisters, Golda Gilliland and Virginia Bagley; a grandson Jeff Kanney; and one great grandchild also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30pm Sun, Jul 27, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with military graveside rites performed by the combined units of Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803.

Visitation is from 2 to 8pm Sat, Jul 26 at the funeral home.
