Charles R. "Chum" Godfrey, 66, a longtime resident of Kalkaska, died Sun, Jan 7, 2001, at his home. 

Chum was born in Muskegon Jan 23, 1934, to George and Grace Stahl Godfrey. On Sep 24, 1982, in Kalkaska, he married Grace V. Blanshan. 

He served in the U.S. Army, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a retired auto mechanic, and owned and operated Chum's Garage. 

Surviving are his wife, Grace; daughter, Dorothy (George) Copp of Dundee; stepsons, Robert Morrill, Mark Blanshan, and Allen Blanshan, all of Kalkaska; stepdaughters, Roseanne Kelly, Debora Morrill, and Christine Lenz, all of Kalkaska; sister, Grace (Lloyd) Bowen of Knoxville, TN; sister in law, Frances Godfrey; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. 

A brother George, and sisters, Edith Post and Bertha Smith, preceded him in death. 

Funeral services were Jan 10 at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska; Pastor Ray Luke officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
