Charles E. "Ed" Thorington, 58, of Kalkaska, died Friday, August 3, 1990 at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. 

Mr. Thorington was a lifelong resident of Kalkaska County, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed for the past 12 years as a bus driver for the Mancelona Public Schools. He enjoyed carpentry, gardening and his tractor. 

Mr. Thorington was born in Kalkaska County on December 27, 1931, to Arthur and Verda Dean Thorington. On March 14, 1964, in Kalkaska, he was married to Mabel Whitmore who survives. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by four brothers, Raymond Thorington of Greenville, Cecil Thorington of Kalkaska, John Thorington of Grand Rapids, and Robert Thorington of Cedar Springs; two sisters, Bernice Helsel of Baldwin, and Alice Mathews of Gaylord; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Leroy and Wilbur Thorington. 

Funeral services were held Monday, August 6, 1990, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. Marvin Classen, pastor of the Mancelona Missionary Church officiated. Burial was in Coldsprings Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County, under the auspice of Land O' Lakes Post 8684 V.F.W.
