Charles E. "Chuck" Stein, 73, of Fife Lake died at Munson Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 19. 2003.

He was born February 18. 1930, in Detroit, the son of Edward and Susan (Kreiner) Stein. On June 6, 1953, in Detroit, he married the former Dolores Sweet.

Chuck was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving as sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Chuck retired from Kysor after 18 years of service. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, American Legion Post No. 219, Disabled American Veterans and the Michigan Travel Club.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards - especially euchre - camping and spending winters in south Texas. Chuck loved his family and grandchildren.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dolores Stein, of Fife Lake; a daughter, Elaine Grover of San Antonio, Texas; four sons, Mark (Sheree) Stein, Kevin (Kimberly) Stein, and Glenn (Kathleen) Stein, all of Fife Lake, and David (Kelly) Stein of Kalkaska; eight grandchildren, Sharon, Charlie, Alissa, R.J., Christina, Amber, Danielle and Konrad; two great-granddaughters, Jordyn and Nerissa; a sister, Janet (Frank) Jeroue; a brother, Dennis (Shirley) Stein; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Fife Lake, with Father Eloka Omutah as celebrant. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Mass Intentions.

Arrangements were entrusted to Covell-Smith Funeral Home, Kingsley.
