Carl Frederick Vertican Sr., 80, of Kalkaska and formerly of Gaylord, died on Friday, Sept. 12, 2003.
Vertican was born on Feb. 13, 1923, in Port Huron.
He was employed as a master mechanic at Holland Chevrolet in Marine City, 20 years for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and the last 23 years as an independent oil field contractor until he finished his last pump jack in 2002. Vertican faithfully served his family and his Lord and leaves a rich legacy of love for his family and love for the great outdoors of northern Michigan.
Vertican is survived by his wife of 60 years, E. Annette; sons, Carl Jr. and Gary, both of California, and David of Gaylord; daughter, Carole Bearss of Virginia; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Blackwell of Sebring, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Sept. 16, 2003, in the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord, with interment at Otsego Lake Township Cemetery.
