Bernard Kirgis, 70, a resident of Manton since 1992, died Sat, Dec 2, 2000 at his home. 

Mr. Kirgis was retired electrician, and had served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. He lived in Kalkaska from 1963 to 1976, and then resided in New Mexico until returning to Manton. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

He was born in Maple Rapids on Sep 22, 1930, the son of Gehr and Myrza (Butler) Kirgis. He married Verna Tuffts in Kalkaska on May 9, 1964. 

Surviving are his wife, Verna; son Gehr (Cynthia) Kirgis of Richland, TX; daughters Constance (David) Croft of Howard City and Amy (Chris) Kantura of Manton; brother R.G. (Mary Ella) Kirgis of Stanton; sister Hattie Ann Winter of Lansing; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild. 

Son Daniel Lee preceded him in death. 

Funeral services were Dec 4, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska; Rev. David McCool, pastor of the Kalkaska Church of the Nazarene, officiated. Cremation followed the funeral services.
