Basil "Base" Keith Dempsey, of Hartford City, IN, a loving husband, father, brother, and compassionate friend, died Feb 9, 1998, at Ball Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Dempsey was born Feb 8, 1940, to Irvine and Ruth (Freel) Dempsey in Millersburg. He married Carolyn M Linder in Onaway on Oct 7, 1961. Mr. Dempsey graduated from Onaway High School in 1958 and received a BS Degree in education from Taylor University in 1978. He was a licensed barber (but did not practice) and a former police officer in Ann Arbor, having retired as Taylor University Security Director. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, the Hartford City Rotary Club and was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow.
Surviving are his wife; daughter Narlynn D (Jeff) Vinyard of Evergreen ,CO; sons Keith I Dempsey of Lakewood, CO, and Jeff L (Debbie) Dempsey of Hartford City, IN; sisters Delores (Ed) Moltrup of Millersburg, Sandee Carpenter of FL: Ruth Ann (Dave) Hacker of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers Fred (Kay) Dempsey and Rand Dempsey, both of Onaway, and grandchildren Jessica, Chelsea, Sonorah, and Matilda Vinyard, Terrance and Nicole Parsons and Robert Basil Dempsey and Mae Dempsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dennis Dempsey.
Funeral services were held Feb 12 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, in Hartford City. Rev. Lloyd Hall officiated. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Millersburg.
