Arthur Hay DeVane, 48, owner DeVane Chevrolet Company and one of the leading business men of Columbus, passed away shortly after midnight Saturday following a sudden heart attack.

Mr. DeVane had been a sufferer from heart trouble for the past two years.

He was born near Cuthbert, GA, Jun 11, 1886. After finishing at local schools he completed his education at a business college at Columbus, GA, and for a few years became interested in aviation, which he was compelled to abandon because of an injury to his eyes.

He entered the lumber business, coming to Mississippi and located at Scooba. After twelve years in this business he was offered the dealership of the Chevrolet Motor Company in Columbus, which he established in 1925, and in the conduct of which he has been with signal success.

Since coming to Columbus he has been identified with the progressive growth of the city and has served on the directorate of the Chamber of Commerce, and upon a number of civic committees.

In 1913, he married Miss Eva Revell at Hagerstown, MD, who survives with an adopted daughter, Doris. Surviving also are his mother, Mrs. Sallis Hay DeVane and four brothers, Foy DeVane member of the Alabama Legislature from Service, AL, Ross DeVane of Service; Joe DeVane of this city and D.H. DeVane of New York City; and one sister, Mrs. Willie DeVane Cheney of Morgan, GA, and a large family connection in Georgia and Florida.

Funerals services will take place from Gunter Funeral Home at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning, having been held up awaiting the arrival of Mrs. DeVane’s relatives from Maryland.

The services will be conducted by Dr. J.D. Franks, pastor of the First Baptist Church of which Mr. DeVane was a member. Dr. Franks will be assisted by Dr. E Nash Broyles and Dr. V.C. Curtis, Methodist pastors of Columbus and Dr. J.W. Ward of Greenville, and Dr. Campbell, Presbyterian pastor of Macon. Interment will take place in Friendship Cemetery
