Thank your for your service

Art Fleetwood, 80, died Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at his home. He was born Jun 19, 1928 in Beulah to Evert and Clara (Lamb) Fleetwood. He married his high school sweetheart Judy Ewing on Sept 17, 1950.

He entered the US Army and worked as a postal clerk while in the service. After receiving an honorable discharge he continued with a career in the US Post Office. He retired after 31 years of service, 29 of which he served as postmaster in Beulah.

After retiring in 1982, Art and Judy took on the challenge of restoring the 1880s stone house on the north shore of Crystal Lake with the help of their son Scott. Their love of antiques, Art’s woodworking talent and Judy’s decorating skills combined to restore the house to the beautiful home which they have enjoyed for the past 27 years.

Art was an outdoorsman, enjoying deer and bird hunting, fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed sports, coaching little league and refereeing football. He was an avid sports fan for the local teams and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s golf, hockey, baseball, and softball teams.

Art is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy; his children, Buddy (Don) Brown of Kalamazoo, and Scott (Nancy) of Beulah; four grandchildren, Don (Julie) Brown, Kim (Andy) Cavanaugh, Ryan Fleetwood, and Kassidy Fleetwood; four great grandchildren, Nick and Mattie Brown, Joey and Jordyn Cavanaugh, nephews Steve, Brian, and Dan Fleetwood; and sister in law Marianne Fleetwood.

His parents, an infant daughter, Deborah Lynn, and brother, Lee Fleetwood, preceded him in death.
