Alton H. Stephens, 81, of Kalkask,a passed away Aug. 30, 2003, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center, LTC.

The son of Albert and Floy (Gilliam) Stephens, he was born on Oct. 23, 1921, in Reota Haskell, Okla.

Alton was in the U.S. Army during World War II.. serving with Gen. George Patton at the Battle of the Bulge, Third Army, II Corp. Fourth Division, Second Battalion. Company F.

Alton retired from Chrysler as a general foreman in 1972. He was a resident of Mancelona, moving from the Detroit area in 1977. and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his children; Allen Stephens of Raleigh, N.C., Joyce (John) Smith of Rosenberg, Texas, Barbara Stephens of East Bernard, Texas, and Gary (Kathy) Stephens of Chesterfield Township, and Angelice Joy (Jeremy) Stone of Michigan; 13 grandchildren; one great- grandchild; siblings, Charles Stephens of Florida, Doyle (Marilyn) Stephens of Sterling Heights and Geraldine (Darrell) Lee of Clinton Township.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 6, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Internment will be at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley.
