Allen L. Smith, 66, of Homer, passed away Wed, Jun 1, 2011 at his residence. He was born Aug 12, 1944 in Garden City, MI to James and Dorothy (Shattock) Smith.
Allen was a long distance freight hauler for Ken Cunningham, then a transporter for Bennett Motors. He was an inn keeper in Kalkaska and in California.
While in Kalkaska he was on the Village Council and was a Rotarian. While in Homer he was a Homer Township trustee and was Interim Manager of the Village of Homer.
Al loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, and hunting. He was a gifted artisan ans a woodworker and with Michigan stones and semi precious stones for jewelry.
Allen is survived by his daughter, Robin (Dean) Blodgett of Homer; his son, Michael Smith of Florida; four grandchildren, Robert and Danny Foster, and Kyanne and Trevan McNees; and one great grandchild.
Also surviving are two sisters, Debborah (Paul) Jensen of Livonia and Cathy (David) Billings of Minnesota; and sister in law, Jennie Smith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Roger Smith.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
