In later years, Alice worked for the River Rouge School System as a custodian at the Ann Visger Elementary School. Alice retired in Sep 1971, and returned to the home Alva built for her, one half mile down the road from the log cabin on Donathan Rd, where they spend their early years and vacations.

After Alva's death Alice devoted her life to her family that kept growing and to the church she loved, St Aloysius Catholic Church in Fife Lake.
