Alger J. Battenfield, 77, of Springfield township, Fife Lake, passed away Monday afternoon, October 22, 1962, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Battenfield was born June 10, 1885, at Fife Lake, the son of John and Mathilda Battenfield. He was married to Rosa Ely Leggit on July 3, 1965, and to that union were born five children. His wife preceded him in death in 1955, also one daughter.
Mr. Battenfield spent his entire life on his farm in Springfield township.
Surviving are two sons, Laurence of Twin Lakes and Harold of Fife Lake; two daughters, Mrs. William (Nettie) Hawkins of Muskegon and Mrs. Stanley (Ruby) Ball of Standish; two grandchildren whom they raised, Ardith Birgy Bridson and Larry Lee Birgy; nine other grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a stepson, Arthur Leggit of Fife Lake; and a brother, Loyd of Fife Lake.
Funeral services will be held Thursday (today), October 25, 1962, at 3:00 p.m. at Springfield Church of Christ with Rev. Robert Frye of Manton officiating. Burial will be in Clark Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley until 1:30 p.m. today when he will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of service.
